What is Thai Yoga Massage?
Thai Yoga Massage is a dynamic and comprehensive full body treatment from the north of Thailand, which aims to harmonise the physical, energetic and emotional body. It is the quintessential holistic treatment. It has its roots in the Yoga, Ayurvedic and Buddhist traditions. Using Hatha Yoga poses combined with pressure along the Sen energy lines it can relieve muscular tension, improve circulation, boost the immune system and encourage balance throughout the body whilst being deeply relaxing. This ancient practice is a perfect remedy to the pressures of modern living.

What is a Thai Yoga Massage treatment like?
Thai Yoga Massage is performed on a mat on the floor. Both client and practitioner are dressed in comfortable clothing allowing ease of movement and flexibility. Starting with the feet and working up the body to the top of the head the therapist guides the client through the Hatha Yoga poses whilst using hands, fingers, arms and feet to exert pressure on the Sen energy lines. By removing any blockages, the therapist facilitates the flow of energy freely through the body restoring balance and harmony. The gentle movement and flow helps stretch and mobilise joints. A session should last between 1½ hours to 2 hours in length. Thai Yoga Massage does not require you to be flexible, athletic or strong, or have any knowledge of yoga practice. A thorough consultation is conducted on your first visit to gain a full understanding of any conditions and discuss the most effective personalised treatment plan.
Aftercare Advice
Massage is an aid to the body's natural mechanisms to release stress. To gain maximum benefit from your treatment, it is advisable that you follow this aftercare advice for the next 12 hours.
- Drink plenty of water to help flush out toxins; massage aids the removal of toxins from the body.
- Avoid caffeine, alcohol or smoking; massage aims to aid the body’s natural detoxification process and these substances are counterproductive as they increase the levels of toxins in the body.
- Avoid eating heavy meals because blood is diverted to the gut to help with digestion. Digestion will divert energy away from the healing process. Eat light meals such as fruit and vegetables.
- Be aware of your posture.
- Rest as much as possible in order to assist the healing process.
- You may feel emotional, this is quite normal.
- You may experience a feeling of tiredness or fatigue following a Thai Yoga Massage. In rare cases, headaches may follow. Increased urination is very likely after a Massage, make sure you stay well hydrated. In very rare cases flu-like symptoms (runny nose, coughing) may be experienced, but these will be temporary as the body re-balances itself. It will be replaced by a feeling of wellbeing!
