What is Gliding Cupping?
Gliding Cupping, also know as Moving Cupping, is an effective way to remove tension and toxins from the body. Cupping originates from China, however this technique has evolved to using silicon cups that create a vacuum that distracts the tissue from the body creating space and moving energy and lymph. This can be used both from the western view of relieving tension from tissue and aiding in the circulation of blood and lymph in the body, and the eastern view of aiding the flow of energy around the body and relieving blockages. This can be booked as a stand alone treatment or used as a tool to aid in another treatment.
What are the benefits of a Gliding Cupping?
Some of the benefits include:
- Eases muscular tension and tightness
- Relaxes the body holistically and engages the parasympathetic response
- Stimulates oxygenation and detoxification of the blood while promoting a feeling of lightness and tension relief
- Aids in the removal of metabolic debris from the muscle tissue, fascia and skin
- Breaks down adhesions
- Promotes healing in scar tissue and chronic injury sites
- Increases lymphatic drainage and promotes circulation
- Releases the fascia
- Improves range of motion
- Enhances post workout recovery
What is a Gliding Cupping treatment like?
The Cups need a medium applied to the body to facilitate the gliding, usually an oil base is used for this. The massage follows the protocol of the Holistic Massage, with the client laying on the couch under towels with the area being worked exposed. The medium is applied and warmed up with some gentle Holistic Massage techniques. The Cups are applied and then moved around as needed to relieve the tension. The cups can be left static for short periods of time to allow more stubborn tension to be eliminated. The area is then lightly massaged before moving on to the next area to be addressed. Clothing is removed (underwear not included, please leave that on). Towels are used to protect your modesty and only the specific area being treated will be uncovered. A thorough consultation is conducted on your first visit to gain a full understanding of any conditions and discuss the most effective personalised treatment plan.
Please be aware there is a possibility of the treatment causing Petechiae of the skin, purple, red or brown spotting on the skin caused by broken blood vessels under the skin. This is not the same as a bruise and will fade in a few days. Please do not schedule a gliding cupping treatment in the week before you are attending an event if petechiae is not desired.

Aftercare Advice
Massage is an aid to the body's natural mechanisms to release stress. To gain maximum benefit from your treatment, it is advisable that you follow this aftercare advice for a period of 12 hours.
- Drink plenty of water to help flush out toxins; massage aids the removal of toxins from the body.
- Avoid caffeine, alcohol or smoking; massage aims to aid the body’s natural detoxification process and these substances are counterproductive as they increase the levels of toxins in the body.
- Avoid eating heavy meals because blood is diverted to the gut to help with digestion. Digestion will divert energy away from the healing process. Eat light meals such as fruit and vegetables.
- Be aware of your posture.
- Rest as much as possible in order to assist the healing process.
- You may feel emotional, this is quite normal.
- You may experience a feeling of tiredness or fatigue following a Massage. In rare cases, headaches may follow. Increased urination is very likely after a Massage, make sure you stay well hydrated. In very rare cases flu-like symptoms (runny nose, coughing) may be experienced, but these will be temporary as the body re-balances itself. It will be replaced by a feeling of wellbeing!
